Our devices can now, by default, communicate with cash registers via the Concert protocol. So, the cash register can, using tags from the protocol, send the payment total to the POS, which displays that amount on screen. This is just the basic situation because there are many other factors to communicate back and forth, like what to print on the ticket, for example.
